Disclosure: I was compensated to participate in a Sprint Latino research study around Latina Moms and mobile security for their children. All opinions expressed here are 100% my own. When my daughter turned ten, one of the items on her wish list was a cell phone. As a mom of three children, I thought ten was a bit too young for a child to own a cell phone, especially my own daughter. I bought my 16 year old son a cell phone when he was about 14. This request is four years early. At the … [Read more...]

Parenting Debate: To Dorm or Not To Dorm…
That is the question in our household these days. It's left unanswered because we can't agree on the same thing.....yet. Ever since my son's college night at his school, we've been debating whether or not he should dorm in college. My husband and I are on opposite sides of the spectrum and can't seem to come to an agreement. I say he dorms because it would be great for him. It would teach him so much about life. It would also teach him about responsibility and independence, among lots … [Read more...]
Motherhood Out Loud: Not Just For Moms!
Call me crazy but ever since I was a little girl, I wanted children -- specifically a boy for the first-born. At the tender age of 21, I found out I was pregnant and no, it was not planned but I was gleaming with joy. I like to say my son matured me. He made me realize that I was no longer first, it was him, and I had no problem whatsoever. Even though it took me until I got home to fall in love with him, he was my real-life doll. I dressed him, played with him, took him to the park (which … [Read more...]
I’m a Mom to a 15-Year-old!
So I'm officially a mom of a 15-year old. Well technically it won't be until 10:17 pm. How did that happen? It was just yesterday that I was holding him in my arms at the young age of 21. I was a young mom but I definitely had the motherly instincts when it came to caring for my baby. Maybe it's because I've always loved kids. I remember vividly when I was in third grade, I mentioned to my teacher that I wanted to have my first baby at 21 and I wanted a boy because my family was filled … [Read more...]
Phone Post: How Do You Do It?
As a mom of three, I'm often asked this question; how do you do it? How do you handle three kids? I have one and I go crazy. Please tell me there's a magic way of raising sweet children and having them stay that way. Sorry Charlie, there is no magic way, magic pill or anything that I do to raise my three kids. I just do it. Most days I have no idea how I got here or what I did to have my kid on the honor roll or how my son's favorite vegetable is broccoli (I hate broccoli). My kids are now … [Read more...]
Just One More Day
Today is officially my children's last day of summer. Believe it or not, I still have some last minute things to buy on their school lists and I also have to buy my older two a few more outfits (I bought my 5 y/o her school clothes back in January at a tremendous deal). There's nothing worse than being a last-minute mommy. My kids have been very excited for weeks about their first day of school which is tomorrow. They're even more excited because they're all going to be attending new schools. … [Read more...]
Guest Post: My Daughter Knocked Someone Off a Bike – Good Job, Baby!
Since I am away taking a mini-road trip this weekend, I asked a couple of friends if they wanted to be a guest poster here at New York Chica. I am happy to announce that Ofelia will be our second guest writer. Ofelia is a single Latina mom raising her teenage daughter, dealing with the rules of the suburbs and trying to pass on the best of their wonderful culture. Her blog is called Viviendo en dos idiomas ~ Living in Two Languages. I had one of "those" days last week. School done for the … [Read more...]
Happy “Late” Father’s Day
(This post was scheduled for Monday but for some reason, it was never posted, so here it is.....days later) This past Sunday was a very special day to all the Dad's out there that are active in their kid's life. I say "active" because there are many father's out there that don't even acknowledge that they have kids so the moms have to be both Mom and Dad. So to those moms, Happy Father's Day to you too! I hope it was a good day. I was one of the lucky ones. My Dad was a wonderful … [Read more...]
