When You Have Kids, There’s Always Room For Disappointments. 4

vomit

Unfortunately, that’s life when you have kids.

Here’s why…

My family and I had plans to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince today. We had it planned since Wednesday, which was the official start day for the movie.  We also wanted to make Sunday a “Family Fun Movie Day” since my husband has been working so much lately.  It’s really his only day off out of the week.

We were all excited to see it, including my 4 year old. She especially loves Harry Potter.  I think it’s because one of  her cousins resembles him (minus the glasses), which is so cute if you ask me.

Anyway, we have waited long enough for The Half-Blood Prince to come out in the theaters because we are all big fans.  We have seen every Harry Potter movie numerous times so this movie was a must-see for us!

But guess what happened?

My 4 year old has been vomiting since 11AM, off and on.  So that means we are staying home.  We’ll be missing out on our family day but that’s fine.  We’ll have time for another family day.  I rather see my baby well than to see her sick as a dog anyway.  Every time I look at her, I feel bad for her because I know vomiting is one of the worse things you can go through.

So, although we’re all upset and disappointed, we’ll just have to wait until she gets better (which I hope is fast).  Maybe we’ll go see it during the week.

Hope your Sunday is better than mine.

Just one of those days… 1

Posted on June 13, 2009 by Lisa

Well, I have to say it’s just one of those days.  My week hasn’t been the best week because of me not feeling well and it won’t be a great weekend either.

I was super excited about the Big Apple BBQ Block Party happening today and tomorrow but my vehicle decided to tell me otherwise.  I’m having car trouble so that leaves me to stay home, which isn’t a bad thing but I really wanted to eat some BBQ ribs, chicken, pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, drink some beer and interact with people. I could just taste the BBQ sauce..

Oh man, I’m dying right now! lol

I was also supposed to meet Carol from NYCitymama (an old friend & blogger) and Jen from Babyrific (a blogger I have yet to meet in person but will soon) but I guess life happens.

They’ll be plenty of days where I can meet them and have a good time.

So, what can I say but that’s life!

I really don’t believe in horoscopes but…. 6

Posted on December 12, 2008 by Lisa

this one caught my eye.  With my birthday coming up on Tuesday, I’m thinking about lots of things.  For instance, there are some people in my life I thought were there for me but I guess I was wrong.  Anyway, that may be another post.  I don’t want to get into something like that right now.

So check it out:

Sagittarius (11/22-12/21)

You don’t need people in your life who disappoint you over and over again, so have a talk today with that person who is always all talk and no action. Let them know that you are none too pleased with them. You have given them one more chance a million times, and they haven’t changed. They need to know that you aren’t afraid to cut them loose from your life. This is not a threat or ultimatum, it’s an honest way to communicate your expectations.

Wow, isn’t that deep?  I don’t think I could do that but I hope those “people” realize that it isn’t right to just cut people off for no apparent reason.

So does anyone believe in horoscopes? If you do, leave me a comment and let me know.

Have a great weekend!!

Check out this email that was sent to me. 3

Posted on November 24, 2008 by Lisa

I received this email a few days ago and thought it would be nice to share such a warmhearted story being that Thanksgiving is just a few days away.  I hope you enjoy.

My name is Rose..

The first day of school

our professor introduced himself and

challenged us to get to know someone

we didn’t already know.

I stood up to look around

when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.

I turned and found a wrinkled, little old lady

beaming up at me with a smile

that lit up her entire being.

She said, ‘Hi handsome. My name is Rose.

I’m eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?’

I laughed and enthus iastically responded ,

‘Of course you may!’

and she gave me a giant squeeze.

‘Why are you in college at such a young,

innocent age?’ I asked.

She jokingly replied,

‘I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids…’

‘No seriously, ‘ I asked.

I was curious what may have motivated her

to be taking on this challenge at her age.

‘I always dreamed of having a college education

and now I’m getting one!’ she told me.

After class we walked to the Student Union Building and shared a chocolate milkshake.

We became instant friends.

Every day for the next three months

we would leave class together and talk nonstop.

I was always mesmerized listening

to this ‘time machine’

as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.

Over the course of the year,

Rose became a campus icon

and she easily made friends

wherever she went. She loved to dress up

and she reveled in the attention

bestowed upon her from the other students.

She was living it up.

At the end of the semester

we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet.

I’ll never forget what she taught us.

She was introduced and stepped up to the podium.

As she began to deliver her prepared speech,

she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.

Frustrated and a little embarrassed

she leaned into the microphone and simply said,

‘I’m sorry I’m so jittery.

I gave up beer for Lent

and this whiskey is killing me!

I’ll never get my speech back in order

so let me just tell you what I know.’

As we laughed

she cleared her throat and began,

‘We do not stop playing because we are old;

we grow old because we stop playing.

There are only four secrets to staying young,

being happy, and achieving success.

You have to laugh and find humor every day.

You’ve got to have a dream

When you lose your dreams, you die.

We have so many people walking around who are dead and don’t even know it!

There is a huge difference between growing older

and growing up.

If you are nineteen years old

and lie in bed for one full year

and don’t do one productive thing,

you will turn twenty years old.

If I am eighty-seven years old

and stay in bed for a year

and never do anything

I will turn eighty-eight.

Anybody can grow older.

That doesn’t take any talent or ability.

The idea is to grow up

by always finding opportunity in change.

Have no regrets.

The elderly usually don’t have regrets

for what we did,

but rather for things we did not do.

The only people who fear death

are those with regrets.’

She concluded her speech

by courageously singing ‘The Rose.’

She challenged each of us to study the lyrics

and live them out in our daily lives.

At the year’s end Rose finished the college degree

she had begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation,

Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

Over two thousand college students

attended her funeral

in tribute to the wonderful woman

who taught by example..

that it’s never too late

to be ALL you can possibly be.

These words have been passed along

In loving memory of ROSE.
REMEMBER…

GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY.

GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.

We make a Living by what we get,

We make a Life by what we give.

God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.

If God brings you to it,

He will bring you through it.
