Easy Recipe: Italian Pasta Salad (Sabroso Saturday)

Sometimes cooking can be therapeutic for me, depending on my mood.   There are times when I love to cook and there are times when I dread to face the kitchen.  Especially when my mind goes blank when I think about what to make.  But once everything is planned and prepped, I'm ready to go and create a tasty meal. When it comes to simple side dishes, I'm super happy to make it because I know it won't take long to make. The recipe that is featured today is easy, light and very versatile. You … [Read more...]

Guest Post: Hispanic Heritage Month: A Band of Boricuas

Li is a lawyer by day and an actress, writer and blogger by night. She is a Puertorriqueña who embraces her roots and seeks to inspire others on her journey. Please visit her at her lovely blog Her Deep Thoughts. When I think of Hispanic Heritage month, the one thing I think of the most is my immediate family. A bunch of Puerto Ricans living in Brooklyn, New York. As a little girl, if there was a special occasion or a holiday to celebrate we would clamor to Mamita’s (my grandmothers) … [Read more...]

Wordless Wednesday – Scared Little Girl in 1979 (add your linky)

This picture was taken in August of 1979. As you can tell by the picture, I was TERRIFIED! When my Dad propped me up there and let me dangle in the air to take a photo of me, I was so scared. I tried to smile because I had eyes on me but I really wanted to cry. I remember that day like it was yesterday. Now that I look at this picture, it makes me laugh and proud that my Dad wanted to preserve the moment. Yeah, what a moment that was. LOL Happy Wordless Wednesday! If you want to … [Read more...]

Monday Memories: Apple Picking at DuBois Farms in Highland, NY

Earlier today I was looking through my picture files and I can not believe it's been two years since the last time we went apple picking. I love picking fresh fruit and smelling the fresh air through the orchards. I need to make a mental note and plan our next apple picking outing. Check out a few photos I took at Dubois Farms in 2008. It's a wonderful place where you can pick your own fruit from apples, pears, grapes, peaches and pumpkins, drink apple cider and eat delicious apple cider … [Read more...]

Shout-Out Sunday – 10/10

Since July of this year, I started a new trend here at New York Chica where I give a special Shout-Out to those bloggers who had a great post (at least I think so ;)) for the week. I wanted to show my readers that there are plenty of great writers/bloggers out in the blogosphere and giving props to fellow bloggers is a great way to give back to the blogging community. Since I started blogging in 2006 (2008 publicly), I've met so many good, sincere and accomplished bloggers like Niri and … [Read more...]

Easy Recipe: Potato Pancakes With Avocado & Eggs (Sabroso Saturday)

When I woke up this morning, I thought to myself, I've got to get a recipe up on my blog for Sabroso Saturday.  I was thinking of my version of empanadas (which I will post soon) but I wanted to post pics with it too. So then I thought maybe I'll add a breakfast recipe and was wondering what to write. Like any other morning, I drank my coffee with one of my favorite magazines like Everyday with Rachael Ray trying to get inspired with one of the recipes. In the October issue, I spotted a … [Read more...]

A Stroll Over The Hudson River

(click the photo to enlarge) When I think of the Hudson River, I think about tours that pass by the Statue of Liberty, helicopters flying over to see the many sights that New York City has to offer and of course, the ferries that go to Staten Island and New Jersey.  What I don’t think about is walking across the Hudson River on a bridge – but not for long.  My kids and I felt adventurous one Saturday so we planned on doing something different and explore something we’ve never done before.   … [Read more...]
