Ramblings: Do You Believe in Ghosts?

With Halloween just around the corner, there’s tons of shows and movies on TV about ghosts, goblins and teen slashers.  But to some, ghosts are not only on the big screen.

There are also tons of shows about “real” ghosts like Ghost Hunters on SyFy, The Haunted on Animal Planet, Paranormal State on A&E and many more.

I was once a skeptic when it came to ghosts until I met my hubby (boyfriend back then). Although I never encountered spirits or ghosts, the stories he told would make my hair in the back of my neck stand up.  One of the stories he told me was about a woman sitting on an old rocking chair in the living room.  She wouldn’t do anything but just sit there but it terrified him and his sisters.  Turns out an old woman died in the apartment a few years back. I guess she didn’t ‘move on.’

When my dad died, I really wanted to “see” him. He left us so suddenly I didn’t get a chance to say my goodbye and since I’ve heard from random people that when a love one dies, sometimes they come back to you to say their final farewell, I wanted to be one of those people.

Well, it never happened to me.

I was sad for awhile because I thought he didn’t want to say goodbye (I know, weird) but then I felt that he was peaceful enough to have moved on, there was no need for the final “goodbye.” And so I moved on too.

When my husband and I decided to look for a house, the first thing my husband said is that he didn’t want a house where people had died. I thought, fair enough. I wouldn’t want that either.

The house we live in now was vacant for awhile because the lady that lived there before could no longer live by herself so she was moved into a nursing home but thankfully she was still alive when we moved in.

A few months after we moved in, strange things started to happen.  The radio would turn on by itself, weird looking keys would fall from various places, the TV would turn on and off and we would hear strange sounds.  I was never afraid because I felt that the people were just “visiting” (weird, I know) and wanted to know that “their” house would be ok.

One day, before going to bed, I went to shut off the stereo.  As I was walking toward the doorway, it turned back on.  My husband and I looked at each other like what the hell just happened?

We had no idea what was going on.  It had never done that before and we were positive that it was one of the old owners.  But still it never bothered me. I can’t say that about my husband because he could not sleep (LOL).

My Encounter

Anyway, fast forward to this past August when I went on a trip to Split Rock Resort.  The last morning we were there, I woke up around 6am to use the bathroom.  Before I went back to bed, I went into the other room to check on the girls (something I do daily).

They were all sleeping.

So I decided to go back to bed and sleep a couple of more hours since it was our last day there and we had a long ride home ahead of us.  After getting situated in bed, I immediately felt as though my five year old was climbing into the bed with me (she does this a lot at home) but I didn’t see anything because my eyes were closed and my back was turned.

I wanted to pretend that I was sleeping. He, he

Anyway, I waited a few seconds and then I turned around. My daughter was NOT there.

So I looked down to the floor to see if she was hiding and nothing.  I sat up puzzled because I really felt someone in the bed with me and it felt just like my daughter.  It felt as though a small child had climb into bed with me.

At this point, I thought my daughter was playing tricks on me. So I got up and walked to the other room to check them again.  They were all sound asleep – they were in the same exact position that I saw minutes before when I checked on them the first time.

I thought what is going on. Is there a ghost in our hotel room. I had no idea what to think.

To be honest, I was a bit startled. I could not go back to sleep so I went back to bed and watched some TV.  An hour later, the kids got up and I never told anyone until a few weeks ago when I told my hubby.  I didn’t even tell one of my closest friends (who was there with me but now she’ll find out after reading this post so I’m sorry S..lol) because I didn’t want to scare her or the kids so I just kept quiet.

When I got home, I never thought about it until we started watching all these ghost shows on TV.

So have you encountered any ghosts lately?

  2. oh crap. I had to read this before going to bed, didn’t I? Yikes.

  3. Wow, that is creepy!! I do believe in ghosts but I haven’t had anything happened since I moved to United States. When I was in PR some things did happened, lol. I have gotten scared (The Ring movie) in the past to the point where I have asked my son to sleep with me!

I hope I didn’t jinxed myself just now and things start to happen!! 😀

  5. Ok, so I wanted to write more yesterday but I had to get out of the office … I’ve been thinking about your scary ghost story since yesterday and you may have inspired me to write a Halloween post, although I’m not a Halloween fan. I used to be though – before scary things actually hurt my heart and had me scream like a maniac or like a loser. LOL

I had a similar bed thing happen. In my house. It was weird. I felt someone lie down next to me when I was in that place between being awake and being asleep. Im gonna chock it up to a vivid imagination instead. 😉

But your stories spooked me out.

This is why when I watch those shows you mentioned – which are so addictive and spooky – i get all freaked out and keep the lights on. I had a convo w/ my homegirl about this. It’s like ghosts are every where. And I dont like to talk about it bc then I feel like THEY know you’re talking about them. LOL

Anyway, thanks for giving me the Halloween Creepidy Creeps!

    Hugs,
    Li

    • Oh my gosh girl! You literally have me laughing here and I’m alone. Now I hope “my ghosts” don’t get mad at me but sometimes I tell them to get out of my house, you know, just in case. LOL I get spooked out too now. Before it wasn’t that bad but since that morning.. Oh yea!! If that happens again, just tell them nicely to go away and that they are not welcomed. That should work…hopefully 😉
