MyBlogSpark and General Mills Sweet and Salty Review & Giveaway 92

Posted on May 30, 2010 by Lisa

My family and I love our snacks.  After dinner, we like to have a sweet or salty snack to calm the savage beast within us (LOL).  We can’t help it. It’s that time to relax, watch some TV and enjoy each other’s company.  But there are times when we have nothing to snack on so I’ll drive to our local convenience store to get some much needed grub.

When I’m at the store, I tend to browse all the aisles looking for that perfect snack, especially when I’m alone.  Either I’m looking for something sweet like chocolate or something salty (and/or spicy) like chips. It’s either one of the two (when I’m “watching” my weight) or sometimes even both.

Thanks to MyBlogSpark and General Mills, I was sent a box of “Sweet and Salty” snacks to try out with my husband (and kids).  They wanted to know if the man in my life has a sweet tooth or enjoys a salty snack.  I have to say he’s a little bit of both – it just depends on his “mood”.

Below are the snacks we were sent:

* Cocoa Puffs Treats Triple Chocolate: An indulgent cereal bar that combines the great taste of Cocoa Puffs cereal and chocolate into one decadent treat, Cocoa Puffs Treats Triple Chocolate is perfect for satisfying any sweet tooth.

* Bugles Hot Buffalo: Need something salty with a bit of a kick? Look no further than Bugles Hot Buffalo Crisp Corn Snacks, which blends the taste of hot buffalo sauce with crispy corn Bugles.

* Nature Valley Oats ‘N Dark Chocolate Crunchy Granola Bars: If you want the best of both worlds, give Nature Valley Oats ‘N Dark Chocolate Crunchy Granola Bars a try. These bars mix dark chocolate pieces, oats and crisp rice nuggets for a classic crunch and burst of whole grain goodness, making them a perfect natural snack that’s high in fiber and protein, but low in saturated fat.

As soon as my husband found out that he would be helping with this review, he was thrilled.  He loves to try new foods and snacks so he made sure he tried all three.

The Cocoa Puffs were my least favorite (and my husband’s too) but my kids went wild for them. They were so happy we didn’t enjoy them as much as they did because it meant more for them.

My husband’s favorite snack were the Hot Buffalo Bugles. He said it had a great corn flavor and a spicy kick that were addicting.  He also said he couldn’t stop eating them.  It’s funny because he (almost) didn’t want to share the Bugles with the rest of us but eventually he did.  My kids, on the other hand were not big fans – they said it tasted weird. I guess that’s because they are used to the regular Bugles that I buy.  I’m a huge fan of the regular Bugles. I grew up eating them when I was a kid but these were a nice change from what I’m used to.  If you love spicy hot buffalo wings, you’ll enjoy these bugles.

Everyone enjoyed the Chocolate granola bars. They were a huge hit.  I love granola bars so to have chocolate mixed in with granola made them extra tasty and delicious.

General Mills Cereals | Review 1

Posted on January 06, 2010 by Lisa

Thanks to General Mills for allowing MyBlogSpark for sending me 4 VIP coupons for free boxes of cereals to help my family get in the habit of eating the most important meal of the day – breakfast.  My kids and I went shopping for a few staples like milk, bread, eggs and of course some cereals. I told each of my kids that they can choose one cereal that had the General Mills brand on the box and this is what they chose:

  • Cookie Crisp
  • Honey Nut Cheerios
  • Reese’s Puffs

I chose my all-time favorite Cheerios – Multi-Grain Cheerios.  When I was in college, this was my breakfast almost every morning.  It has the right amount of sweetness and crunch.  As of yet, I haven’t “met” a General Mills cereal I do not like ;) .

(Click the photos twice to enlarge)

I am happy to announce that General Mills is committing to further reduce sugar in cereals advertised to kids under 12 to single digit grams of sugar per serving. The company has already been reducing sugar in cereals while increasing key nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D, and providing whole grain.

In a health study, it is proven that ready-to-eat cereal eaters consume less fat, less cholesterol and more fiber than non-cereal eaters. Cereals also deliver important vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients, making cereal a top source of key nutrients in children´s diets.

Here are some other cereal benefits:

  • Ready-to-eat cereals, including presweetened cereals, account for only 5% of sugar in children´s diets.
  • Ready-to-eat cereal is the No. 1 source of whole grains in a child´s diet today.
  • More frequent cereal eaters tend to have healthier body weights and lower Body Mass Index measures.

Studies also demonstrate the benefits of eating breakfast. A 1998 study showed that children who eat breakfast tend to perform better at school. Compared to children who skip breakfast, children who eat breakfast score higher on tests, are less likely to miss class or be tardy, have fewer reported discipline problems, and make fewer trips to the office.

Click HERE for a $1.00 off coupon for Trix, Cocoa Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch & Lucky Charms. You can print up to 4 coupons!!

Full Disclosure: The information and free cereal coupons were all provided by General Mills through MyBlogSpark. I was not compensated in any other way. My opinions are 100% my own and were not affected by anyone.

Fight Hunger With Shoprite and General Mills 32

Posted on August 11, 2009 by Lisa

Ever since I was a little girl, I ‘ve seen so many hungry children on television and in real life.  It hurts me to know that so many kids and even adults  go to bed hungry and they don’t even know when their next meal will be right in front of them.

So I’m glad to let you know that  Shoprite has created “Shoprite Partners In Caring” campaign to fight the hunger and start making sure no child or adult is left hungry. shopriteBelow is what they’re all about:

ShopRite ShopRite Partners In Caring is a year-round, community-based, hunger-fighting initiative that works with more than 50 food industry manufacturers to provide $2 million annually to qualified charitable agencies in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.Since its founding in 1999, ShopRite Partners In Caring has donated $20 million to more than 1,400 charities, including emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, child care centers, battered women’s shelters, senior citizen programs, drug rehab centers, programs for the mentally and physically disabled, after-school programs and other organizations that aid those in need.

The ShopRite Partners In Caring Fund is a component fund of the Community Fund of New Jersey that accepts donations to fund its activities.

Below you’ll see how it works:

Every time you buy an item marked with the special ShopRite Partners In Caring shelf tag , you’re supporting one of the 50-plus partner companies whose donations help more than 1,400 hunger-fighting charities in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware and Pennsylvania. It’s that simple. With the support of more than 50 companies whose products range from cereal to salad dressings, toothpaste to tamales, pasta to pantyhose and just about everything in between, contributions add up quickly. And, because each of the 200 ShopRite uses its share of funds raised to support local charities, your purchases benefit the needy in your own community.

Below is who they serve:

ShopRite Partners In Caring dollars ultimately service a variety of organizations with feeding capabilities including emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, child care centers, battered women’s shelters, senior programs, drug rehab centers, programs for the mentally and physically disabled, after school programs and other organizations that support those in need in ShopRite communities.

They’re helping so many people by donating millions of dollars for food and you can help too.

It’s really easy.

Just leave a comment on this post and General Mills and ShopRite will donate one box of cereal to a food bank in ShopRite’s trading area for the first 30 people who comment.

So PLEASE, SUPPORT SHOPRITE BY COMMENTING ON WHY YOU LIKE THIS CAMPAIGN and help Shoprite make a difference!
