You Ran Out Of K-Cups? No Problem!

How many times have this happened to you? You wake up craving (and desperately needing) a cup of good strong coffee and you look in the cupboards and there’s nothing.  You go crazy looking for the canister or in my case, K-cups and still, can’t find one.

The inevitable happened — you ran out of K-cups.

This has happened to me numerous times. I like to blame “Momnesia” as my friend Divina from Dancinghotdogs.com says.  It’s amnesia – mommy-style. You forget everything because your offspring has taken your ability to remember anything.

Just recently, I came back from a press trip to California wanting a nice, hot cup of coffee from my beloved Keurig and at that very moment I remembered that I never took a short ride to Bj’s to buy my usual case of K-Cups (I go through a case once a month – more or less).  You don’t know the stress I went through.

To crave something and to know there is no way to cure that craving unless someone goes out and buys it.  I know what you might be thinking – “she can just go out and buy the k-cups or she can have coffee made the old fashioned way like in a coffee maker.” That’s all true, but if you haven’t tried coffee made from a Keurig, you just don’t understand.  For some reason I do not like “coffee maker” coffee. It tastes burnt and old.  Maybe my palette for coffee is über sensitive but that’s what I taste.

Then it hit me.  I bought a Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter last summer from Amazon.com that I never used because I almost always have K-cups.

Duh!

I took my reusable k-cup, washed it and added 2 teaspoons of my favorite coffee, Bustelo Café Espresso BABY! After brewing, I added my milk and sugar and tried it. OMG! It was delicious. Better than some of the K-cups I’ve tried in the past.  I drank it like it was the best thing I ever tasted. It was just like my Abuela used to make. Rich, creamy and strong – just the way I like my coffee.

The next day, I tried it with regular coffee (the one my husband drinks – Maxwell House). The one thing I did notice was when I tasted the coffee, it was watery, bland and weak. I had to dump it out.  I didn’t like the taste whatsoever.

So, my advice to you is to NOT use regular coffee (I guess the coffee grounds are too big), the best coffee to use would be 100% Colombian coffee or any espresso — that is if you like your coffee strong like I do.  I also press down on the coffee so it’s packed in and not loose. This will ensure a great cup of coffee because the water won’t pass through the punctured hole too quickly.

If you prefer a weaker cup of java, then by all means, make coffee with any coffee you desire.

And the absolute best thing about the *Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter — I’m saving money and I’m saving the environment. It’s a win-win for all.

*only works in Keurig home brewers B40 Elite, B50 Ultra, and B60 Special Edition.

Are you a mom with “Momnesia?” Would you like to share a time where you forgot something important?
