A Visit to New York City For The #LowesChallenge Event

Designer Challenge Email

I was invited by Lowe’s to attend their Designer Challenge a few weeks ago.  Little did I know I would also meet my long time friend, Jai from Mami’s Time Out. I was psyched. We have been online friends for about 7-8 years — way before we started blogging.  It all started in an iVillage.com message board called Latina Beauty.  We learned a lot about each other and soon we decided to start our very own blogs.

Meeting Jai in person was the highlight of my day.  I’m sure there will be other times where we can chat in person again.

A HUGE THANKS goes out to Lowe’s for bringing us together!

Ok, back to the event. 😉

The Lowe’s Challenge Event was held at the Chelsea Arts Tower in Glasshouse #21. The venue was simply amazing and breathtaking.  Just look at the building.

The views of lower Manhattan were fantastic!

The appetizers were yummy and delicious.

Lowes Challenge

Their challenge?

To take an 11′ X 11′ space and use materials sold ONLY at Lowe’s to create an oasis.

There were three designs; a beautiful patio “L’Orangerie NYC” style, a modern luxe outdoor movie theater and a table-scape in the garden with colors and textures of Baja.  The winner with the most votes will win $50,000 for their favorite charity!

I have to say, I LOVED all of the designs.  My house and backyard really need help. Both of the inside and the outside of my home are completely boring. It’s missing pizazz and creativity — both of which I do not have.  So I can definitely see all of these designs in my home.

I can see Danny Seo’s outdoor design for an outdoor movie theater.  I have three kids and they would absolutely love watching their favorite movies under the stars.

Marcela’s table-scape was fabulous.  I don’t think it matches my home, but I would surely love an area to have our meals in a place surrounded by the tranquil beauty.

The one design that really stood out was the patio design, by Elaine Griffin.  It’s warm, yet inviting and very romantic.  It would be perfect for those late Summer nights with a glass of sangria and some snacks.  It’s also the one room Jai and I got caught taking the photo below. The picture came out so pretty, it was well worth it! lol

Congratulations to Marcela for winning the Lowe’s Challenge. The money ($50,000!!!) will go to her chosen charity, Olivewood Gardens.

Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post. I was invited by Lowe’s to see the work of the designers and mingle with everyone, which I loved!  All opinions are my own.
