August 18, 1994

August 18, 1994.

A day that came too quickly.

A day I thought would be nothing special besides my cousin’s birthday who lives in Florida.

A day I will never forget because it’s the day I lost my father.  My dad. My papi.

A day that shocked my whole family and all who knew him.

A day that will never be forgotten.

A day that brings back memories of the day he handed me beneficiary papers just a few months before.

A day I often wonder if he knew his “time” was near.

A day that makes me stop and think about how grateful I am my kids still have their father in their lives.  His father died at the tender young age of 27.

A day that makes me even more grateful having a mom that loves and adores us.

A day I will always ask God, why did you take my father so soon.  I was just 19 years old — Still in college.

A day I will always know that my dad never got to meet any of his grand-kids.

A day that should be special to both grandparents and parents.

A day that I will always shed tears because I miss him so.

A day that I thank God for giving me a wonderful and caring husband and of course our healthy, loving children.

Today, take the time to tell the ones you love how you feel. Don’t let THAT day pass you by because before you know it, THAT day may be too late.

Rest in Peace Papi. Until we meet again. I love you….

  1. I am so sorry. You are so right. Don’t take life for granted. Sometimes we may not understand why but God does everything for a reason. We just don’t understand why.

    • Thanks so much for your comment. It was well-needed. Felt like a crap day but at least I spend some time with my kids at the mall 🙂

I hope that today you are feeling a little better. I haven’t lost a parent but I’ve lost someone very close so I know these things never get better….. you just keep going. I’m sure your Dad is up there loving you just as much as you love him.

  6. I am sorry for your loss at such a young age.

I am wondering where the photo above was taken… what neighborhood?
    It looks familiar.
