Why TLC’s Extreme Couponing Show May Not be a Good Thing

I received some coupons in the mail a couple of days ago and it wasn’t until today (after I bought 5 newspapers) that I noticed something on some of the coupons.  As I was cutting my coupons, I saw something that I knew was coming because of the TLC’s show, Extreme Couponing.  Take a look:

coupons, extreme couponing

Did you see that?” Limit of 4 like coupons..”

There’s a bunch of coupons just like that. My husband said it was inevitable for that to happen. I agree.  I never noticed that in the small print before.  Those extreme couponers are ruining it for the rest of us who don’t take it to the extreme. Those who don’t hoarder food and products in their basements, bedrooms and/or garages like the ones you see on TV are messing everything up.

What do you think?  What are you thoughts?

  1. My dh and I noticed the same thing when we were having breakfast. It’s really too bad, but an inevitable consequence of this type of behavior.

  2. Lisa, I feel the same way! I think that companies will catch on to the extreme couponing lifestyle and really enforce stricter usage guidelines. I also can’t stand the fact that these people feel the need to have like 100 frickin boxes of cereal and pasta. Greedy and wasteful if you ask me!

  3. NYC SingleMom says:

I agree, I knew this was going to happen that the Extreme Couponing would change companies policy but on the other hand how many people actually coupon. They are the outliers because for every one of extreme couponers there are thousands who dont and I really dont think, those of us watching will ever become extreme couponers.

I have no interest in spending 6 hours at the supermarket.

I do agree with some of these wackos – nobody needs 17 bottles of mustard

    • I’m a “couponer” but not to that extreme. I like to save $$ so I spend a few hours a week cutting and sorting but it is not easy.

  4. When I first saw the show I thought I feel sorry for the cashier people all over America after people start doing this too. I was watching it with the kids and we couldn’t believe the ridiculous amount of things they had. I mean if you have a big family is ok to have lots of cereal but mustard? I thought it was a bit greedy. Some of them do give to food banks. That I liked because they are helping other people.

The mother with 3 kids who was upset she no longer could have a girls night out because her husband had lost his job. She had things everywhere! With 3 kids you don’t need to hoard to that extreme!

  5. The fine print on the coupons was there long before extreme couponing show… it really has to do with where you live and the regulations… on the show they talk about their coupons “doubling up” at the register… i dont even know what that means, here in NYC there has alwasy been a limit to the products you buy and amount of coupons you use, and not just on groceries, in clothing stores too…
