Ever since I was a little girl, I always knew I wanted to start a family at an early age. I remember a conversation I had with a friend in fourth grade about having kids. We talked about our future kids and what we wanted to have first. Yeah, I know it wasn’t quite normal having that type of conversation in fourth grade but it was something I knew I would want in my future. I wanted to have a good career but at the same time, be a mother too.
It’s funny because during the conversation I said I wanted to have my first child at 21 and I wanted my first child to be a boy. I never thought God would bless me with a son, my first-born, years later.
Fast forward to when I was actually 21, I never thought I would be taking my first pregnancy test at a Nathan’s Restaurant in Yonkers. I can remember the day clearly. It was a cold February day and we were shopping on Central Ave in Yonkers, NY. I mentioned to my then boyfriend (now he’s my husband) about a missed period.
He seemed shocked. Believe me I was shocked to because we were always careful. But I knew something was different with my body.
So we visited a local pharmacy and bought a Clearblue Pregnancy Test. It’s the only fool-proof pregnancy test I knew about. We stopped into Nathans and I did the test there. I know what you’re thinking; it’s not very sanitary nor is it very private but I’m telling you, we could not wait any longer! The suspense was driving us both bananas.
Immediately after peeing on the stick, I saw two lines. I was shocked. I was filled with so many emotions I had no words when I came out of the bathroom. All I did was show my boyfriend and he hugged me so tight that I remember I could hardly breathe.
I could tell he was shocked to but we were together for 6 years, we knew we wanted to start a family of our own after getting married. I guess the kid came first, then marriage. LOL.
With the older pregnancy tests, two lines meant a positive pregnancy test and one line meant you weren’t.
Remember that? That was so long ago! Technology is definitely getting better and better.

Wow…this takes me back. (And I know exactly what Nathan’s you’re talking about!!) Thank you for sharing the story. I remember it was the Friday before Memorial Day Weekend. I also knew my body felt different and took a pregnancy test. Even though it came out positive, I thought it could be wrong (I wasn’t trying to get pregnant). I took 3 more tests just to be sure. Getting pregnant was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Even thought I wasn’t ready, I was so happy that it happened. 🙂 With my 3rd, I took 3! LOL Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks so much for sharing your pregnancy story. I remember when I found out I was pregnant. It was a very special day. I can’t believe the new technology now. How awesome! I’ll keep clearblue in mind for anyonw who wants to be positive if they’re preggers or not. Great post!

8 pregnancy tests to give me a positive answer- I wish I’d used a clear blue lol
And I wish I’d believed you the first time you told me!! LOL Im so glad you have Squishy!! Love her!
Love your post! Yes the second time around that I was pregnant I couldn’t believe it! My first born was 10 years old when I got pregnant again. Yes I went to three pharmacies and pick up clear blue from each place. Went home and submitted the first test and quick enough results were pregnant, second test “pregnant” third try’ obviously pregnant! I was very excited; but in disbelief! Clear blue is the only pregnancy test I would recommend to any women with the slightest doubt or missed period! Run and pick up clear blue because it never lies!! Lol
LOL! Great story! And yes, times have changed. It amazing what these tests can prove nowadays! Thanks for sharing.
I remember when I took a pregnancy for my son. I probably took a dozen tests just because some were questionable . The tests I took were just lines. This would have been much easier and even more exciting..
The lines are the signs of the times. Lol That’s all I know too.
I love your story! Mine was a little different and involved 2 pink line test before the digital one lol I couldn’t believe it so I kept taking test to make sure. Once I saw Pregnant I was like WOW technology for the win! I love the new test and have to admit was so tempted to have a 3rd just to try out how many weeks I could be… ok ok We contemplated on having a 3rd but the test definitely was on the pros to have another baby.

My tubes are cut and tied so no more babies for me! Lol You’re still young so you can have more!
Pregnancy tests have certainly come a long way since I was pregnant with my sons. I remember checking for blue lines or plus and minus signs. I think that these new advances are very important because they help pregnant women to get prenatal care as early as possible which is imperative for a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby.
