Earth Day falls on April 22nd this year. Every year is a new theme on ways to improve our beloved Mother Earth. This year’s theme is called A Billion Acts of Green. The most important goal is to register one billion actions before the global Earth Summit in Rio 2012.
Every year (I should say everyday – because I do) I participate in Earth Day my own way. This year is a little different for me because I am participating in a Blog Carnival with my fellow Latina Bloggers through the group called Latina Fashion, Lifestyle and Beauty Bloggers, which I am a proud member of. Over 180 bloggers are participating together to show the world bloggers can get together and make a difference with our blogs.
Be sure to follow us on Twitter as we collaborate with one another on our very first tweet chat scheduled for today, Wednesday April 20th from 7pm EST to 8pm EST. Today’s tweet chat will focus on Earth Day, obviously and we will share tips, tricks and ways to help our Earth. The hash-tag for the chat will be #LLBlog.
I would like to share what I do on a regular basis to improve and better our Earth.
1. Unplug – I unplug every electronic device or appliance that is not in use. Doing that has dramatically lowered our electricity bill and at the same time, we are saving money.
2. Don’t Litter – I always tell my kids not to throw trash out on the streets because in reality, it’s the same thing as throwing trash on the floor of your house. Would you throw trash on the floor where you eat & sleep? If not, then treat the outdoors as your own personal oasis (even if it doesn’t look as an oasis, just pretend) and don’t litter.
3. Recycle – In New York, it’s the law to recycle plastics, paper, cardboard, aluminum and glass. Recycling makes the world go round and doesn’t make the Earth work overtime. We don’t want Mother Earth working overtime, do we?
4. Change – Don’t just help our Earth ONLY on Earth Day, make EVERYDAY Earth Day. Change your ways on improving the world we live in. Make daily positive changes by using less trash, less material, less gas, less oil, etc.
We can all make a difference in our world. Start today, start NOW! 🙂
