Twelve year ago, in Yonkers NY, I went into labor with my second child. It was after dinner when I started feeling cramps and at that moment, I knew right away what that meant. So I called my doctor and he told me to come to the hospital. When my husband and I got to the hospital (St. Johns Riverside Hospital), they checked me in and gave me a room and a robe. They connected me with the fetal monitors and all that jazz around my belly and checked to see if I was dilated.
Nurses said it wasn’t time and requested us to go home. Meanwhile, it was snowing outside and Yonkers was in for a huge snow storm. My husband refused and said sorry but we’re staying here — This is not my wife’s first baby, she knows. I was in so much pain by that time, I knew at that moment that I should stay in the hospital.
Doctors came in and still said that it was time for me to go home and rest and when the contractions were close enough, to come back. Again, my husband refused. Thank goodness he refused because my contractions got worse and I dilated almost 4 centimeters within one hour. By this time it was about 2am. I was extremely exhausted and my poor husband looked like he had just seen a ghost.
Fast forward to about 6am. (sorry I’m a forgetful person so all the minor details I can’t seem to remember) Still in labor but the contractions weren’t so bad thanks to an epidural. Then they told me the news. You can start pushing now if you want. I tried different positions because the baby did not want to come out. After trying and trying for over 2 hours, the doctor said this,
“Push like you’re pissed off at your husband”
…and Poof! The baby literally flew out of my vajayjay (lol) and onto the doctor’s arms. My husband was shocked! The doctor was shocked also according to my husband. But instead of scaring me by the look on her face, she congratulated me.
I was so relieved.
My husband took one look at the baby and said it’s a girl. We were both like Uh? We didn’t know what we were having so we really thought we were having another boy. Hubby was really happy, so happy that he cried.
I was happy that we didn’t have to go through the circumcision again so I said, “Oh thank God we don’t have to go thru circumcision again.” Don’t ask me why I said that. I was delirious. I was also relieved that I didn’t have to go through a c-section again because if she didn’t pop out like she did, that was the next step.
After she was born, they took her, tested her and everything was great. She was a small but healthy little baby (5 lbs, 12 oz – full term and no I don’t smoke!).
Oh and about the snow storm. We got about a foot a snow that day. The weather was horrible!
Today, she is twelve years old.
Where did the time go? She has grown into a beautiful, responsible, sweet girl that gets straight A’s (she didn’t get that from me! lol). I could not ask for a better twelve year old daughter.
God has blessed my husband and I with a wonderful daughter. I’m so proud to be her mother. Happy Birthday Mely.
Sweet story! 🙂 Happy Birthday Mely!
