A Weekend Filled with Good Eats, A Baby Shower and Riding Around Town in Style! #DriveToyota #ad

There are 52 weekends in a year…

If you ask me, that means plenty of opportunities for a nice, weekend road trip. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — I love road trips! To get away for a couple of days and be out of the normal routine is good for the body, mind and soul.  If I had the money to get away every single weekend, I would be somewhere different all the time.

There’s one place that I always seem to gravitate towards when it’s time for a road trip.  That one place I always love to visit is Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  A part of my childhood lies in the city of Lancaster.  It’s where my father’s side of the family resides.  It’s where I would spend summers and many weekends.  It’s where I feel at peace when I’m visiting my dad’s grave. Every time I get the opportunity to take a road trip to Lancaster, I make it a point to visit my family, my sister, her kids and EAT! And boy do we eat when we are there!

The main reason for this weekend’s visit was for my nephew’s baby shower but before the shower, we had the chance to visit Shady Maple Smorgasbord in East Earl (half hour from Lancaster).  The food was delicious!  I got so full due to all the food & dessert options. If you’re thinking of visiting Shady Maple Smorgasbord, make sure you are STARVING!!

Afterwards, we headed to the location where the baby shower was being held.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve attended a baby shower so I was ecstatic about going to one.  It was an amazing shower. Lots of family and friends, lots of laughter, games, gifts and lots of food and desserts. It was an all-around good time.

This visit wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic collaboration with Toyota. They were kind enough to loan us their 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid LE for the week and I couldn’t have been happier with the vehicle.

Although the highlander is a bigger vehicle than what I’m used to, it was an extremely comfortable ride.  It was also comforting to know that my family and I were safe. Safety’s a huge plus for me and the Toyota Highlander delivered just that and more!

There’s so many thing that I loved about this vehicle but I wanted to highlight my top 5 favorites.

  1. Seating for 8 with its 3rd row seating.  My little one just loves to spend time by herself in the very back so she was pretty content during our long ride. She had FOUR cup-holders and she had the option to put her feet up if she wanted to.  I wouldn’t recommend the 3rd row seating for adults but it’s perfect for kids!
  2. Fully Integrated Steering Wheel. I love the fact that I could adjust the volume and/or change the radio channel without taking my eyes off the road.  I can even take a call as well. I could also change the view of the dashboard to see if everything is okay with speed and distance between the car in front of me.
  3. The Infotainment System. You have air controls, radio controls and heated seats at arm’s length.  Dual-air is pretty cool too. My sister is always cold so needless to say, her side was always warmer than mine. I could also adjust the second row as well.  Setting up Pandora thru Bluetooth was quite easy. I was able to listen to my favorite tunes in a matter of seconds. The CD player was a nice feature too. I brought a few CD’s along for the ride whenever Pandora wasn’t playing my favorite songs.
  4. ECO Mode & EV Mode. ECO Mode helps with fuel economy and when you need to slowly accelerate on low-traction surfaces, such as snow or ice. EV Mode uses only the electric motor for situations where you’re driving at low speeds, such as in a parking lot.
  5. Cup holders. The amount of cup holders saved all of us! I know I sound dramatic but it’s so true.  It was used to hold our drinks (obviously!) and other items, such as our phones, some food items, phone cords and at times earrings, for those quick naps in the backseat. 😉

That’s it. There’s plenty of other features that we all loved (oops, I almost forgot about the 5 USB ports! THE Best when everyone must be connected to everything social media!) but this was just a top 5. Stop by your local Toyota dealer for a test drive. You will enjoy the ride!
