Enjoying Some Afternoon Tea with Teavana and The Best of Me #TheBestofTea

I don’t remember the last time I had the girls over for a little get together.  With our busy schedules with work, our kids and home duties, having a girls night in/out is always placed on the back burner.  And it shouldn’t be that way.  Women need to get together every now and then to unwind, drink some tea, coffee or wine (whatever floats your boat!) and just chat.  It takes away from the monotony of life for just a few hours.  If you’re a mother/woman, you know we all need that from time to time.

We’ve been having lots of snow here in New York. It seems to snow every few days and either the kids have snow days or a 2-hr delay. It just makes me crazy! Honestly, this weather just makes me want to crawl into bed and hibernate like a bear.

I was beyond ecstatic when I found out I had the opportunity to invite several girls to enjoy a some afternoon tea with Teavana to celebrate the Blu-ray release of The Best of Me and to showcase Teavana’s limited edition First Blush Tea which is a specifically designed tea for Valentine’s Day.  It features naturally scented Jasmine green tea blended with floral orchid oolong complemented by luscious strawberries, crisp rhubarb and effervescent undertones of bubbly rosé.

Teavana First Blush TeaI discovered Teavana at my local mall a few months ago and I’ve become quite addicted to their teas, especially the Maharaja Chai Oolong/Samurai Chai Mate Tea blend.  It’s spicy, sweet and delicious.  Thanks to Teavana and Fox Home Entertainment for this awesome opportunity because now First Blush tea is on my favorites list as well.  The scent reminds me of a soft rose perfume my mom used to wear when I was a child.  The taste is just as good.

How to brew a perfect cup of tea

Brewing loose leaf tea is easier than you think!

How hot should the water be?
Each tea type calls for a different brewing temperature – between 175° and 212°.

How much tea is needed?
For hot tea, use 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons (or 1 pearl). For iced tea, just double the amount. If you like your tea strong, add more. To dial down the strength, use a little less.

How long should the tea steep for?
Like water temperature, steep time varies depending on the tea. The sweet spot is between 2.5 and 5 minutes.

When brewing the First Blush Tea:

All you need is 1.5 teaspoons of First Blush tea per 8 oz of water and steep in 175 degrees water for 2 minutes.  It may not seem long enough but the longer you steep the delicate tea leaves, the bitter it becomes.  If you like a stronger tea taste, just bump up the amount of tea, say 2 teaspoons, and that’s it.

Valentine’s Day was just a few days ago so you can certainly get bold and sassy by continuing the day of love and pair the First Blush tea with a glass of champagne for a fun and easy Teavana cocktail with your love. 😉

The Best of Me

The Best of Me on Blu-ray/DVDBased on the #1 New York Times Best Seller from celebrated author Nicholas Sparks comes this tender, romantic drama about the timeless power of love. When former high school sweethearts Dawson and Amanda (James Marsden and Michelle Monaghan) meet at a loved one’s funeral 20 years after tragedy separated them, their love is reignited. As they recall and relive the past, they come to a deeper understanding about the choices they’ve made. Also starring Luke Bracey and Liana Liberato, and featuring beautiful scenery along with music by Lady Antebellum, The Best of Me is a powerfully romantic story of love, hope and second chances.

If you haven’t seen The Best of Me, you’re missing out on a wonderful love story between two people who never stopped loving each other.  It’s now added to one of my favorite chick flicks. Oh and don’t forget a box of tissues! You’re going to need it! 😉

Impromptu Afternoon Tea Party

I tried planning the “tea party” on Friday the 13th but my girls all had plans to celebrate Valentine’s Day with their loved ones to avoid any crowds. That was smart but left me with just a few more days because of an upcoming snow storm — yet again!

The tea party went so well, we forgot to take photos of the spread we had as well. I made homemade garlic hummus with pita chips, homemade red velvet cupcakes and we had a cheese and cracker platter. It was one of the best parties EVER!! All thanks to Teavana for providing us with the PerfecTea Maker, First Blush Tea, measuring spoon and the yummy rock sugar! And I can’t forgot about my peeps over at Fox Home Entertainment for making it all possible. Thanks everyone!

Check out some of my photos from my impromptu afternoon tea get together with a few of my girlfriends!
