In support of Universal Home Entertainment’s release of The Nut Job, I wanted to share some amazing squirrel facts that are sure to blow your mind.

Get to know the adorable, furry little creatures before you watch the film – available on Digital HD TODAY, April 8th and on Blu-ray & DVD April 15th.

Amazing Squirrel Facts

•There are 365 species of squirrel found all over the world, except in Antarctica, where there are none.

•Squirrels belong to the animal group Rodentia – the same as mice and rats.

•Squirrels’ sweat glands are located on their feet.

•Squirrels can run as fast as 20mph.

•Flying squirrels don’t actually fly – they glide.

•Squirrels only mate twice a year.

•Gray squirrels are often referred to as “living fossils” because they haven’t changed much in their 37million years of existence.

•Squirrels are born blind.

•Chipmunks are actually small squirrels with stripes.

•The squirrel is the Native American symbol for preparation, trust, and thriftiness.

Synopsis: Surly (Arnett) is a mischievous squirrel with a mission: to find the tastiest nuts for winter. When he discovers a whole store filled with his favorite food, he plans a heist of nutrageous proportions. But the place turns out to be owned by ruthless bank robbers so it’s up to Surly and his furry friends to stop the nearby bank heist and save the town.

What we thought:

In a nutshell (Get it? lol), the whole family loved it! We shared lots of laughter throughout the movie as well as lots of popcorn. In The Nut Job, you will see how important food is to squirrels just as it is to us humans too. The Nut Job is a movie for the whole family and it will keep you laughing and watching til the very end. Don’t forget to view the deleted scenes — those are hilarious!
