According to the dictionary I have at home, the meaning of Ronin is a samurai with no lord or master during the feudal period (1185–1868) of Japan. A samurai became masterless from the death or fall of his master, or after the loss of his master’s favor or privilege.
Keanu Reeves stars in the action packed movie, 47 Ronin. Based on an epic story, this extraordinary tale of inspiring courage has its origins in the early 18th century. After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and reclaim their honor. Transformed into a thrilling, visually stunning 3D film by director Carl Rinsch, 47 Ronin tells the story of a small group of warriors, or ronin, on a quest to avenge the death of their master. Battling across a savage world of mythical beasts, shape-shifting witches and wondrous terrors, the ronin must seek help from kai (Reeves), an enslaved half-breed they once rejected – in their ultimate fight for redemption.
I reviewed this movie with my family a few nights ago but my girls quickly lost interest within the first 40 minutes. I’ll admit, it’s not a movie I would normally watch because I’m more of the romantic comedy type but since Keanu Reeves was starring in the movie, I just had to see it for myself!
To my amazement, I really enjoyed the story. My boys (hubby and son) thought 47 Ronin was incredible. They really enjoy this type of movie so this was right up their alley. The special effects and the love story is what really peaked my interest. Keanu Reeves is one hell of an actor so if you’re into dark, warrior movies like 47 Ronin, you really should see it.
