I am thankful for…..cranberries?? #Tropimommas

Right after Halloween, people all over start planning for the holidays. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I’ve been planning our menu for weeks now. Even though it’s basically the same menu every year, this year is going to be a little different. If you’ve been a regular reader of New York Chica then you’ll remember that a couple of years ago I wrote a post about not including cranberries in our menu because no one in my household eats cranberries, especially in sauce.

But this year I decided to challenge myself into making homemade cranberry sauce with spices and a full cup of Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice. After searching the internet for some recipes, I decided to take a few recipes and mend them together to make my own.

Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice

I’m so glad that my local supermarket now carries the new 89-ounce bottle! Isn’t it wonderful?
The new 89-ounce bottle is available at grocery stores nationwide. The suggested retail price is $6.29 but I got a great deal! I bought this bottle for only $3.99!

Why Choose Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice?

Not only is Tropicana Pure Premium OJ 100% pure and natural with no added sugar, it’s the only brand I buy. In my opinion no other brand tastes better. I grew up with Tropicana and my children are growing up with it too. I wanted to make my cranberry sauce naturally sweet, that is the main reason I chose to make it with orange juice instead of plain ol’ water. Thanksgiving foods should be all about sweet and savory dishes – not tart, so this was a great recipe that combined the sweet flavors of the OJ and the savory flavors of the spices to balance out the tartness of the cranberries.

Orange-Cranberry Sauce Recipe

Here’s what you need:

1- 12-oz bag of fresh cranberries
1- Cup of Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice
1/2-Cup of White Sugar
1/2-Cup of Brown Sugar
1/2 teaspoon (or more if you like) of Ground Cinnamon
A pinch of  freshly grounded Nutmeg

Like I said before, I searched all over the internet to find the perfect recipe but instead, I took a few of my favorite ingredients to make own concoction.

I threw everything in the pot and stirred the ingredients. I waited til’ it came to a boil and lowered the flame. You will see the mixture thickening. After it thickens, you know it’s almost ready.  It took about 15-20 minute to cook. This was my very first time making homemade cranberry sauce and it was extremely easy.  Just look at the photo collage below.

Orange-Cranberry Sauce IngredientsI had my 7-year-old daughter have the first taste and she LOVED it!  I made it yesterday so the flavors could marry together and I tried it this morning and let me tell you – the flavors of Fall really comes through in this easy and simple recipe.  I will ALWAYS add this to my Thanksgiving menu.

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for my wonderful husband, who loves me and our children unconditionally, for our three healthy and beautiful children, our home and our families.

And yes, I’m thankful for cranberries too. 🙂

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!
