Blogging Can Be Exhausting When You’re a Working Mom…

time to update blog

Tell me about it!! Time to dust off the cobwebs!

It’s been over twenty days since I last blogged. Every nite I think about posting about some of the great places I’ve been to, products that I’m obsessed with and lots of other things but life has definitely got in the way…..in a good way. Β It’s not easy to be a full-time working mom who blogs because there’s not enough hours in a day.

After work, my family is my life so it’s time to get dinner ready, put a load of laundry in the washing machine, making sure my little one does her homework and of course making sure the kids shower before bed. By the time everything is done, I’m nodding off on the sofa.

On top of that, my sixteen year old son is getting prepared to take his PSAT.

Holy moly!

In two years, I’ll have a child in college! How did that happen? Sigh….

So……when can I blog?

Certainly not at night — I’m a zombie by the time 8 o’clock rolls around.

In the morning? Not gonna happen. I snooze way too many times to even form a decent sentence.

During the weekend? That is when we do family time and clean the whole house.

What to do?

Believe me, I’m not looking for pity, Β I’m simply looking for advice or any suggestions my blogging buddies can give me.

What advice do you have for a busy mom like me who needs at least 8 hours of sleep every night to keep my blog alive?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. πŸ™‚

  1. Work on a post little by little, when you get a bit of time. You don’t have to make one long detailed post in one sitting!

  2. It’s really really really tough. I am still trying to work it out.

Do you what you can my friend!

  3. I know how you feel Lisa. I’m home with my toddler but I don’t get a chance to do any computer stuff. By the time she goes to bed and its my time I’m so tired that I just want to relax. I do force myself to blog sometimes when its been a while but its takes a long time to get my post done. Some days I’m able to do more than others so I think it balances out. But yea, blogging is the last thing I want to do when I’m exhausted. I just do what I can

  4. Oh boy, do I sympathize! I work at home but I also home-school! It can be really tough to manage all this social networking. I rarely have time to comment on blogs.

One of the things that might help is blogging via mobile phone. There’s a WordPress app for the iPhone, there’s probably one for Android, too. It’s not the best way — it’s hard to incorporate photos, and videos are nigh impossible, but it’s a great way to create a draft and publish it later or just write a quick blurb and get it online. I sometimes blog when I’m the bathroom (!!) or waiting at the checkout.

    • I’m glad to know I am not the only one who struggles. I don’t know why this happens but right when I wake up, I think of a post and the whole first paragraph. But when I grab my phone to write, my thoughts disappear! lol So hate that!

  5. I have to admit I feel exactly the same, I have great intentions to keep my blog up to date with a post a few time a week but then life gets in the way!

I try and make notes as much as possible, whether it’s on a notepad, on my phone or in a word document. But they don’t always turn in to posts!

I think the only way to do it is be really disciplined and allocate an hour a few time a week and just sit down and write. If possible even write the start of a future post then you’ve got something you can continue with next time you sit down to write.

I should take my own advice πŸ™‚ but then I’ve got a 2 year old who likes having all mom’s attention!
