Almost Wordless Wednsday | Havana Central – Times Square

A few days ago, I visited Havana Central in Times Square NYC with my sister.  It was a “Sister’s Hang Out Day” so we wanted to eat somewhere with great food (so we heard).

When we arrived to the front desk, we were immediately seated upstairs.  The place looked so great, the ambiance was spectacular and the lights were nicely dimmed.  When I sat down I mentioned to my sister that this place would be nice to take our men.  She laughed.

Since we were both starving, it didn’t take long for us to order because we knew what we wanted to eat.  We had looked at the menu online before getting there.

First, we ordered the Empanada Platter. You get 3 assorted empanadas; chicken, beef picadillo & shrimp.  They were all delicious but my favorite were the shrimp empanada.  It was seasoned perfectly, fried perfectly and tasted divine.

Second, we ordered our entreés.  I ordered the roast pork with yellow rice & red beans.  My sister ordered the shrimp in criolle sauce with yellow rice and black beans.  Take a look below:

Being that I have an old Canon camera(note to self: Must buy a new camera!), the pictures does not give the food justice. The taste was amazing.   The pork was spicy but not too spicy and very garlicky – just the way I like it.  I was savoring every bite. My sister really enjoyed her meal as well. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the sauce was nicely spiced.

We were both in heaven.

After we ate our entreés, we decided on having café con leche and churros. The café tasted like my abuela was in the kitchen & made it especially for me. It was so good. I haven’t had coffee like that in years.  It was rich, creamy and not bitter at all (unlike other restaurants that I won’t name).

The churros on the other hand, weren’t so perfect.  They tasted really good but they were overcooked.  If I didn’t dip them into my coffee, they would’ve been too hard to eat.

But don’t get me wrong,  I still enjoyed them because you can’t wrong with cinnamon & sugar and café con leche.  It just goes well with each other.

Overall, I had a great time.  I loved everything about Havana Central.  I think the food was really good and I highly recommend eating here if you enjoy Cuban food.  And if you never had Cuban food, you’re missing out on some fantastic food!

So if you’re ever in Times Square in New York City, be sure to visit Havana Central.
