Coming out of my shell

When you hear someone say “Coming out of my shell”, you generally think it’s about something embarrassing that has happened to them or something that has been kept secret.  Well, that’s true but it can also mean that you shouldn’t let the oyster out of its shell. Not before you learn some helpful facts about oysters and how you can cook oysters before eating them so you won’t get sick or even die.

I found this great site that helps you learn almost everything about Gulf Oysters.  It’s called beoystereaware.com.  Before I saw the site, I didn’t know that Gulf Oysters carry a bacteria called Vibrio Vulnificus It can be transmitted to humans if eaten raw.  It’s especially dangerous if a person has Diabetes, Cancer, Liver Disease and even some stomach disorders.  If you really love oysters and you have one of these illnesses, don’t worry.  You can still eat them and avoid sickness and death.  You just have to make sure the oysters are fully cooked or make sure the oysters you are about to eat have been post-harvest processed.  If you follow those rules, you can eat oysters whenever you want.

So before eating oysters, always remember this:  Be informed. Be cautious. Be smart.  Be sure and always be Oysteraware.

Please visit Gulf oysters for more information.

Hey, thanks for sharing! A little bit more light would have been good but other than that it’s fine 🙂 I agree with you, if you see something you should tell the person. Btw, funny thing, I made one today too when I went out, lol. Have to check how it looks. Great minds think alike, he, he.
