It was such a sad day. My husband’s car died two days ago somewhere in New York City. He asked me what he should do. I told him since it is a 1997 vehicle with problems with the transmission and the muffler, I didn’t think it would be worth the tow to our house and a trip to the mechanics. It would cost too much for what it’s really worth. So I suggested that we should donate the car to a charity that can pick it up as soon as possible. What do we have to lose besides a problematic vehicle, right?
So, I researched for a charity that would make us feel good and happy. There are many charities that are willing to pick up your working or disabled vehicle at any time. I found a site called Kars4Kids. It’s a charity that benefits Joy for our Youth. J.O.Y. is a 501 charity organization that provides for the physical, emotional, and the spiritual needs of distressed and at-risk youths.
JOY’s primary focus is on children who, without intervention, are at high-risk to experience failure, social challenges, depression and other factors that lead to anti-social, self-destructive behavior.
In my opinion, any charity that helps kids in need is a charity that really needs it. I love kids; kids are our future. There is also a bonus to donating a vehicle to the charity that I didn’t know about. We get a tax deduction and a free 3 day, 2 night stay at over 80 hotels in the U.S.A. How cool is that?
So, have you ever donated to a charity? If so, what did you donate? I’d love to hear about it.
I’ve never donated a car, but now that you’ve put an idea in my head I’m going to see if I can talk my husband into donating his truck that is just sitting there and hasn’t ran in YEARS. I wish I could just do it myself but I’d feel too guilty about that.
Wow. I have donated to lots and lots of groups. I regulary contribute to the food bank. Every Wed I walk dogs at my SPCA. I like to donate (tithe) to different groups every month. Most recently I’ve contributed to the IAMFoundation.org – they donate books to kids & adults in need.
My current project is a fundraiser for dogs – if you are interested please visit http://www.DogCaptions.com for more info about the comical cards that are raising the fun and the funds … And, please pass it on to your friends!
