Last week New York Chica was invited to partake in a Meet & Greet for the upcoming Broadway Show “Ghetto Klown”, staring John Leguizamo and directed by Fisher Stevens. I, LaLatinaLoquita, was on the scene to find out what the show was all about and why John was getting back on the scene after taking a hiatus from Broadway. Fisher & John spoke of how they first met while starring in a park production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and then again later while filming the movie Super Mario Bros. After that they knew they were destined to do something great with each other.
But what?
Go back to two years ago, when John first started working on “Ghetto Klown”, Fisher decided to pay him a visit. After seeing the show in it’s first stages, they both knew that this was finally the project they had both been waiting for. Since then the inseparable pair have gone through edits and re-edits to create a hilarious outlet for John to express himself and take his viewers on a comical journey of his life.
Similar to John’s past Broadway Shows, “Freak” & “Sexaholics…A Love Story”, he continues to explore key points in his life that brought him to where he is today. John went on to tell the room that one of the things he would be doing differently from his past shows. He would be doing more impressions for his former co-stars, not just family members, all while they’re photos would be on display on a slide projector behind him. It would be seen as the only other cast “member” in the show.
When asked why he decided to come back now, during the recession and when all Broadway shows are struggling. John simply replied by saying that people constantly come up to him asking when he was coming back, and that is what brings him back now, and every time; that is what he responds to.
All in all the event was amazing. They served us drinks and appetizers, took the time to get to know all the bloggers by introducing themselves, and were very helpful in telling us more about the event. All of the bloggers invited were able to speak to both John & Fisher one on one and take photos with them as well.
Both gentlemen were very open to talking to us about any and all topics, and when it was time to wrap up, the continued to take time to make sure that everyone had the opportunity to spend a little time with them.
I was fortunate to be able to ask one question during the Q&A portion of the Meet & Greet. See video below:
