First Alert P1000 Atom Smoke Alarm Review

First Alert Logo

Did you know that over one-third (37 percent) of home fire deaths occur in homes without smoke alarms? That’s a lot if you ask me. That is exactly why the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) recommends that smoke alarms be installed in every bedroom and on every level of a home. In addition, alarms should be tested on a monthly basis and batteries changed at least two times a year.

If you have a bad memory like me, the best time to check your smoke alarms is during daylight savings time (March & October).

While nearly all U.S. households have at least one smoke alarm installed, in a startling one-fifth of these homes, none are working – most often due to missing batteries. That is exactly why it’s very important to check those smoke alarms to see if they are working properly.

Fact: Did You know that Carbon Monoxide Alarm should be replaced every 5-7 years?

First Alert sent over the P1000 Atom Smoke Alarm for review and let me tell you it does its job. You would think from the size that the sound would be very low but it’s wickedly loud. Plus, when you have a smoke alarm, you’d want the sound to be annoyingly loud to wake up in case there’s a fire.

Another fact I found interesting was that if every home had working smoke alarms, U.S. residential fire deaths could drop by 36 percent, saving approximately 1,100 lives per year, according to the National Institute of Standards Technology. Can you believe that? We all really need to be diligent in making sure we have working smoke alarms.

Fact: Did you know that Smoke Alarms should be replaced every 10 years?

Had one detector. Don’t know how long. It wanted battery. Tried 2 duracells.Didn’t help. Went to Costco for new batteries. One worked. Bought new alarm while there. Neither red light is on. Push and hold test button .One alarm beeps once, then four beeps twice. Neither alarm sounds. The older one has a 400 in memory but alarm has never sounded when I was home.

    You need a 24 hr.phone to clarify.

    Hello,

Last week my FirstAllert smoke detectors were beeping loudly and I took the batteries out. I replaced the batteries with new ones. The detectors still bleeped loudly. I took out the new batteries and now the detectors disconnected because I cannot stand the noise, plus my small little dog cannot tolerate the noise. I need help to connect the detectors back and make sure they do not beep unnecessarily.

    Thank you,
    Genie
P.S. The detectors are difficult to disconnect and connect.
